Many times people say, 'he has 'it', or she has 'it'. You must have 'it' when you have your own business. 'It' is what gets you in the door, what keeps a person listening. What is 'it'? Read on.
I am, and have been, on a quest to make myself a better person. Re-training at 50 isn't as easy as the initial training would have been back at 10.

Always have business cards.

Don't shorten the word business to 'biz'.

Always wear a smile, no one will care if your clothes are last years models. [or older]

Do not use email, which is an abbreviated form of communication *anyway*, to make things more abbreviated.

Store-bought cards and handwritten notes/letters mean a LOT more in this electronic age than ever before.

Have a good vocabulary. Spend 5 minutes, twice a day, looking up a new word, getting the definition and repeating it in different sentences throughout the day. Under your breath if necessary.

Conversely, if someone wants to sell me something, and their vocabulary isn't at least on the 'acceptable' level, I won't listen.

If a person isn't dressing, acting or speaking well, nothing else will help them get the sale. To reach those not in one's circle of influence, requires a dramatic, sometimes, shift in behavior, inward and outward.

Several key points, dress every time you go out the door. It's much easier for men than women in most climates. However here in casual Phoenix, Az, it's just as easy to throw on a pair of nice shorts and a nice top as it is to put on your gardening shorts.

Presentation is everything I am learning. Outward presentations and inward presentations. Speaking ability, vocabulary, interest in others. If a person has a genuine interest in others', that comes across as charm, sincerity and makes the other person FEEL good. Don't you like it when someone listens to you?

The experience a person receives from another is what 'it' is.
